Grok Bot Just Got Grok 4.7: What Changed, What Didn't, and Still No WhatsApp (2026)
Quick answer: Grok 4.7 (released September 21, 2026) is the model now powering Grok Bot, and xAI trained it specifically to understand the Grok Bot harness. In practice that means Bots that check their own work more, hold longer tasks without losing the thread, and handle conversational admin better than they did on Grok 4.6. What didn't change: Grok Bot still needs a paid SuperGrok or Cursor plan, still runs on its own cloud computer rather than in your chat apps, and still doesn't work inside WhatsApp. If your admin lives in WhatsApp, Agent Sonic does the reminders, follow-ups and document reading there, with nothing to install.

What xAI actually shipped on September 21
Grok 4.7 is xAI's newest model, released September 21, 2026, at the same price and speed as Grok 4.6. The company calls it its most capable model for coding and knowledge work. Three changes matter if you use Grok Bot rather than the API.
First, it's a bigger base model with a longer training run on tasks that take hours, not minutes. Second, it's better at verifying its own work: it re-reads what it did before handing it back. Third, and this is the one for Grok Bot users, xAI says it trained 4.7 to natively understand the Grok Bot harness. That's the layer that turns a chat model into an always-on agent with its own computer, browser and logins.
Translated out of launch-post language: your Bots should wander less on long jobs, catch more of their own mistakes, and be better at the messy, conversational parts of admin work (a half-specified request, a follow-up that changes the plan halfway) than they were three weeks ago.
There's also a Grok 4.7 Fast variant at twice the token rate, but it's only in Cursor and Grok Build. If you're a Grok Bot user, you won't see it.
A quick refresher: what Grok Bot is
Grok Bot launched in beta on August 11, 2026. Each Bot is an AI teammate with a name, a job description, and a persistent cloud computer: a browser, a file system, and its own logins to the tools you give it access to. You message a Bot (type, dictate, or voice call), give it a task, and it goes off and does the work in the actual tools. It comes back to you with updates, drafts you approve before they're sent, and questions when it hits something it can't decide.
xAI's own examples are a sales Bot updating a CRM from call transcripts, an ops Bot processing invoices that land in Gmail, and an engineering Bot reproducing a bug and filing the ticket. The recurring theme is that the work lands where a human would have put it, not as a chat draft.
Since August 26, Grok Bot has been included with SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus and SuperGrok Heavy, and with Cursor Pro, Pro+, Ultra and Cursor Teams. There's no separate Grok Bot subscription. Usage is its own pool, separate from normal Grok or Cursor usage, and it resets weekly. Apps exist for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android.

What gets better for Grok Bot users
Long jobs hold together. The most common Grok Bot complaint in its first six weeks was drift: give a Bot a multi-step task and by step eight it's forgotten a constraint from step one. 4.7's longer context and its training on multi-hour tasks are aimed squarely at that. If you've been breaking jobs into small chunks to keep a Bot on track, try giving it the whole thing again.
Fewer confident mistakes. Self-verification is the headline feature. A Bot on 4.7 is more likely to say 'I couldn't find the invoice number, here's what I did instead' than to fill in a plausible-looking number and move on. That's the difference between an agent you can trust with invoices and one you have to audit.
Better at the conversational bits. Because 4.7 was trained on the Grok Bot harness itself, it should be better at the back-and-forth that real delegation involves: 'actually, skip the ones from last month', 'do the same for the other client', 'no, the other spreadsheet'. Earlier versions handled a clean instruction well and a messy conversation poorly.
Documents and presentations. xAI specifically calls out improvements in creating documents and slide decks. If you've been using a Bot to draft reports or proposals, expect cleaner structure and better formatting.
None of this is a new feature. It's the same product, running on a better engine. If you were already happy with Grok Bot, you'll be happier. If it didn't fit your workflow before, the model upgrade doesn't change the workflow.
What didn't change
It's still a paid, bundled product. You need a SuperGrok or Cursor subscription. There's no free tier for Grok Bot itself, and the weekly usage pool means heavy users hit a ceiling.
It still lives on its own computer. A Bot works inside a cloud machine that xAI (and Cursor) run. That's the design, and it's what makes it powerful for browser-heavy tasks. It also means the Bot is a separate place you go to, with its own app. Your existing chats, groups and contacts aren't where it lives.
It still isn't in WhatsApp. There's no way to add a Grok Bot to a WhatsApp chat or group, message it from WhatsApp, or have it post reminders into a group. Grok Bot has its own desktop and mobile apps and that's where you talk to it. If your team, your clients or your family coordinate in WhatsApp, Grok Bot is a tab you have to remember to open.
It's still built for knowledge work, not personal admin. xAI's examples are CRM updates, invoice processing, bug reproduction. That's the sweet spot. 'Remind me to call the accountant every Monday at 9' isn't a task that needs a cloud computer with a browser. It needs something that sits in the chat you already have open.

Who should care about this update
Teams already on Cursor or SuperGrok doing browser-heavy back-office work: this is a real upgrade for you. Re-test the jobs that used to drift.
Solo operators who tried Grok Bot in August and gave up: worth another look if your problem was reliability on long tasks. Not worth another look if your problem was that it lived in yet another app.
Anyone whose day runs in WhatsApp: the update doesn't touch you. Grok Bot on 4.7 is a better agent, in the same place it was before. If that place isn't where you work, the model number doesn't matter.
That last group is most small business owners, freelancers and busy people outside the US: the people whose customers message them on WhatsApp, whose team coordinates in a WhatsApp group, whose suppliers send invoices as WhatsApp attachments.
If your admin lives in WhatsApp
This is where Agent Sonic fits. Sonic is a personal AI assistant that lives entirely inside WhatsApp. There's no app to install, no dashboard, no separate place to check. You message it like any contact.
The things Grok Bot is overkill for are the things Sonic is built for. "Remind me to send the invoice to Dana on the 1st of every month" sets a recurring reminder that fires in WhatsApp. "Every Sunday at 8pm, remind the team group about timesheets" posts into the group automatically. "What did I decide about the office lease?" pulls from the notes you've told it over the past weeks, because it keeps a persistent memory of what you tell it.
Documents work the same way. Forward a PDF contract, a spreadsheet or an invoice and ask "what's the payment deadline in this?" or "total these by supplier." Sonic reads it and answers in the chat. Send a voice note while driving and it transcribes, understands and replies; ask for the answer as a voice note and it sends one back.
Outreach is the closest thing to what Grok Bot does, done the WhatsApp way. "Message the three plumbers I saved and ask who can come Thursday morning, then tell me who said yes." Sonic messages them, collects the answers, and reports back to you. It also browses the web for live answers, generates and edits images, and connects to Google Calendar, Sheets and Docs so "add lunch with Yossi Tuesday 1pm" lands in your calendar.
It's not a computer-use agent. Sonic won't log into your CRM and click through screens, and it won't reproduce a bug in your product. If that's the job, Grok Bot on 4.7 is the better tool. If the job is the hundred small admin tasks that happen in chat, Sonic does them where the chat already is.

Bottom line
Grok 4.7 makes Grok Bot a better agent: steadier on long jobs, more honest about what it couldn't do, better at conversational follow-ups. It doesn't change what Grok Bot is, where it lives, or what it costs.
If your work is in browser-based tools and you're already paying for Cursor or SuperGrok, update your expectations upward and give it the long jobs again.
If your work is in WhatsApp, nothing shipped on September 21 changes your day. The assistant that does is the one that's already in the chat.
Frequently asked questions
Does Grok Bot use Grok 4.7 now?
Yes. Grok 4.7 was released on September 21, 2026, and xAI says it trained the model to natively understand the Grok Bot harness, so Bots run on it. There's no separate upgrade step for users.
Did the price of Grok Bot change with Grok 4.7?
No. Grok Bot is still included with SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy, and paid Cursor plans, with its own weekly usage pool. Grok 4.7 itself is priced the same as Grok 4.6.
Can I use Grok Bot in WhatsApp?
No. Grok Bot runs in its own desktop and mobile apps on a cloud computer. It can't be added to a WhatsApp chat or group. For reminders, follow-ups and document reading inside WhatsApp, Agent Sonic works there directly with nothing to install.
What is Grok 4.7 Fast and do Grok Bot users get it?
Grok 4.7 Fast is the same model on faster infrastructure at twice the token price. It's available only in Cursor and Grok Build, not in Grok Bot or on the public API.
Is Grok 4.7 better than GPT-6 Astra?
On public intelligence indexes GPT-6 Astra scores higher overall. xAI positions Grok 4.7 as competitive on long-running professional tasks at a lower per-token price. For agent products, what matters more is where each one runs: Grok Bot in its own apps, OpenAI's dots inside ChatGPT, and neither inside WhatsApp.
