What Is ChatGPT Space? Pages, Slides and Dots for Teams (2026)

Quick answer: ChatGPT Space is OpenAI's new shared workspace, announced at DevDay on September 29, 2026, where a team and ChatGPT build Pages, Slides and tasks together. It replaces Library. Pages are persistent, shared documents (tables, charts, interactive dashboards) that several people edit at once and that stay synced with connected tools. Slides are decks that people and AI agents edit together, then present in ChatGPT or export to PowerPoint or Google Slides. Space is available on ChatGPT Pro, Business and Enterprise, and you can tag in a dot, OpenAI's always-on agent, to help.

What is ChatGPT Space?

ChatGPT Space is a shared workspace where your team and ChatGPT build documents, presentations and tasks together. OpenAI announced it at DevDay on September 29, 2026, and it replaces Library in ChatGPT.

The idea is simple. Instead of ChatGPT handing you an answer that you copy into another app, the work stays in ChatGPT and stays shared. A Space holds Pages, files, presentations and spreadsheets. Several people can work on the same thing at the same time, with ChatGPT and OpenAI's new dots working alongside them.

Space landed on a crowded launch day. OpenAI also announced dots (always-on personal agents), the GPT-6.1 Sol model, a restructured ChatGPT Pro lineup and an Ultrafast speed tier. Space is the piece aimed squarely at teams: it's where the work lands once the AI has done it.

In one line: Space turns ChatGPT from a chat window into a place where a team keeps its working documents. Whether that helps you depends a lot on where your team already works, which we'll get to.

What are ChatGPT Space Pages?

Pages are dynamic, persistent shared documents that you build with ChatGPT or a dot and that your team edits together. A Page can hold headings, lists, tables, charts and even interactive dashboards, and it doesn't disappear into a chat thread when you close the tab.

Three things make a Page different from a normal ChatGPT answer. It's persistent: it lives in your Space, not at the bottom of a long conversation. It's multi-editor: several people can edit the same Page at once. And it's synced with connected tools, so a Page built on data from your apps stays connected to them instead of being a frozen copy.

Access is set per Page. You can grant view or edit access and revoke it later. That matters when a Page mixes internal numbers with something you want to show a client or a contractor.

What that looks like in practice: you ask ChatGPT for a weekly sales summary as a Page, with a table by region and a chart of the trend. You give your sales lead edit access and your accountant view-only access. Next week you open the same Page and keep working, instead of starting a new chat and pasting everything again.

Details we couldn't confirm at launch: offline access, version history, and exporting Pages to other file formats. If those matter to you (they should for anything legal or financial), check them before you move important documents in.

How do ChatGPT Slides work?

ChatGPT Slides are presentation decks that people and AI agents edit at the same time. When the deck is ready, you can present it right inside ChatGPT or export it to PowerPoint or Google Slides.

The shift is who's in the deck with you. In a normal presentation tool, people build the slides and maybe ask an AI for a paragraph. In Space, the model or a dot can be working on slide 8 while you fix the title on slide 2 and a colleague rewrites the pricing slide.

The export options are the practical part. Most clients, investors and bosses still expect a PowerPoint file or a Google Slides link. Export means you can build in ChatGPT and still deliver in the format everyone else already uses.

A realistic request: "Turn our project notes from this month into a 10-slide update for Thursday's client call." The agent drafts, your team fixes what it got wrong, and you either present from ChatGPT or export the deck and send it.

Check the output before it goes in front of anyone. OpenAI itself admits dots can make mistakes, and a confident wrong number on a slide is worse than no slide at all.

How do teams use ChatGPT Space, and where do dots fit in?

On Business and Enterprise, Space becomes a team hub: people share Pages, Slides, plugins and spreadsheets and hand recurring work to ChatGPT. OpenAI's example is the weekly project update, the kind of task that eats an hour every Friday. It refers to this delegated, recurring work as Team Tasks.

Dots are the always-on layer on top. A dot is OpenAI's personal AI agent, powered by GPT-6 Astra, with its own cloud computer and browser. It works toward your goals 24/7, connects to 4,000+ apps and learns your preferences over time. In Space you can tag a dot in to help, and Pages and Slides can be built by a dot as well as by the model.

Here's the catch that's easy to miss: Space and dots aren't on exactly the same plans. Space is on Pro, Business and Enterprise. Dots are on every Pro tier and on Business Premium. Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare get dots as a beta that stays off until an admin turns it on. So a Business team gets dots only on Business Premium, according to OpenAI's launch list.

Location matters too. Pro dots aren't available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the UK at launch, while Business Premium gets dots in all supported ChatGPT regions. OpenAI hasn't said whether Space itself has any regional limits.

And each dot is personal. It learns one person's standards and habits and remembers context across the channels that person uses. OpenAI envisions "teams of dots working together on your behalf," but at launch the typical setup is one dot per paying user, tagged into shared Pages when it's needed.

Who gets ChatGPT Space, and what does it cost?

ChatGPT Space is available to Pro, Business and Enterprise users. OpenAI presented it as part of those plans, not as a separate product with its own price tag.

For one person, the cheapest verified way in is ChatGPT Pro at $100 a month, now called Pro Standard. Pro also comes at $200 (Pro More) and in a new $500 tier (Pro 500). For teams, Business Premium costs $100 per seat per month billed annually, or $125 month to month. We couldn't verify prices for other Business or Enterprise tiers, so ask OpenAI or your admin.

That puts Space in a different bracket from the tools most small teams use today. Five people on Business Premium is $500 a month billed annually. That's reasonable if Space replaces other paid tools and your team does a lot of reports and presentations. It's a lot if what you mostly need is people reminded to send their updates.

Free, Go and Plus aren't on OpenAI's list for Space at launch. If you're on one of those plans and want to try it, you're looking at an upgrade. As with most ChatGPT launches, it's worth checking your own account rather than assuming the feature is already there.

How does ChatGPT Space compare to Google Docs and Google Slides?

Google Docs and Slides are collaborative editors where people write and design. ChatGPT Space is a workspace where AI builds the first version and people and agents edit it together. Both let several people work on the same document at once. The difference is who does the heavy lifting and what a document can contain.

Space Pages go beyond a plain text document. They can hold interactive dashboards, they stay synced with connected tools, and you build them by asking. Slides can be edited by agents while you're in them, and they export to PowerPoint and Google Slides, so Space doesn't force the rest of the world into ChatGPT.

Google Docs and Slides win on reach and cost. They're free with a Google account, and almost everyone you work with has used them. Your client, your accountant and your kid's school can open a Docs link with the account they already have. Space itself only comes with Pro, Business and Enterprise plans.

They're not really either-or. Because Slides export to Google Slides, plenty of teams will draft in Space and deliver in Google. If your team produces lots of reports, dashboards and decks and already pays for ChatGPT, Space can save real hours. If you mainly write, share and comment, the editors you already have do that job fine.

What if your small team runs on a WhatsApp group, not a workspace?

Plenty of small teams don't have a workspace at all. They have a WhatsApp group. The cleaning crew, the three-person agency, the clinic front desk, the contractor team on site: the work gets coordinated in one busy chat, from phones, between jobs.

For those teams, Space solves the wrong problem. The pain isn't that the weekly report lacks an interactive dashboard. It's that half the team forgot to send their hours, nobody posted the morning check-in, and the owner spends the evening chasing replies one by one. Dots don't live in that chat either: at launch you reach a dot in ChatGPT, Slack, Microsoft Teams and a limited US-only SMS beta, not WhatsApp. We covered that gap in detail in can OpenAI dots run your WhatsApp group.

Agent Sonic is a personal AI assistant that lives entirely inside WhatsApp. No app to install, no dashboard, no workspace to set up. You message it like you'd message anyone, and you can add it to your team group. Here's what a team lead actually sends it:

Daily standup: "Every weekday at 9am post in the Crew group: what are you on today, and is anything blocking you?" Sonic posts it on schedule, every day, without you remembering. Timesheets: "Every Friday at 3pm remind the Staff group to send their hours." Chasing answers: "Ask Maya, Tom and Ravi if they can cover Saturday and tell me who says yes." Sonic messages each of them and reports their answers back to you.

Google Sheets and Docs: "Add today's job to the Jobs sheet: 14 Park Road, deep clean, 3 hours," or "Put these meeting notes in a Google Doc." Documents: forward a supplier contract or an invoice PDF and ask, "What's the payment term, and is there a late fee?" Voice notes: in the van, hold the mic and say, "Remind me Thursday at 8 to order more supplies." Sonic can answer by voice too.

It also keeps a memory of the things you tell it once (who's on which crew, when the shift starts), searches the web when you need a fact, and writes naturally in your language, whether that's English, Hebrew, Arabic or something else.

ChatGPT Space or Agent Sonic: which does your team need?

If your team makes reports, decks and dashboards and already pays for ChatGPT Pro, Business or Enterprise, Space is worth a proper try. Multi-editor Pages, agents co-editing Slides and export to PowerPoint or Google Slides are genuinely useful for desk teams. Dots add an always-on agent on top, for the plans that include them.

If your team coordinates in a WhatsApp group and the real problem is reminders, follow-ups and loose admin, Agent Sonic is the better fit. It works where your team already is, from a phone, and nobody else in the group has to sign up for anything.

To be straight about Sonic's limits: it doesn't build slide decks or interactive dashboards, it doesn't have 4,000 integrations, it doesn't run a cloud computer for hours of autonomous research or coding, it doesn't make purchases, and it isn't in Slack or Teams. If you need those things, that's what Space and dots are for. If you're still sorting out OpenAI's agent lineup, we compared OpenAI dots vs ChatGPT agent.

Plenty of teams will end up using both: Space for the deck that goes to the client, Sonic for the group chat that makes sure the work behind it actually gets done.
