ChatGPT Pro After DevDay: $100 vs $200 vs $500 Explained (2026)

Quick answer: After DevDay (September 29, 2026), ChatGPT Pro comes in three tiers: Pro $100 ("Pro Standard"), Pro $200 ("Pro More") and the new Pro 500 at $500 a month, which adds the highest usage and Ultrafast speed (up to 300 tokens per second in Codex). All three include one dot and ChatGPT Space. From October 30, 2026, Pro $200's ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance drops from 20x to 10x the Plus allowance and GPT-6 Pro messages from 200 to 100 a week. Existing $200 subscribers keep current limits through October 29, then get a one-time $2,500 usage credit that expires at year-end.

What changed with ChatGPT Pro at DevDay?

At DevDay on September 29, 2026, OpenAI turned ChatGPT Pro into three tiers: Pro $100 ("Pro Standard"), Pro $200 ("Pro More") and a new Pro 500 at $500 a month. Every tier includes one dot, OpenAI's new always-on personal agent, plus access to ChatGPT Space, the new shared workspace.

The change most current Pro users care about is the cut. From October 30, 2026, Pro $200 gets half the ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance it had: 10x the Plus allowance, down from 20x. GPT-6 Pro chat messages drop from 200 to 100 a week. Existing Pro $200 subscribers keep their current limits through October 29, then get a one-time $2,500 usage credit that expires at the end of the year.

The rest is new capacity at the top. Pro 500 gets the highest usage on offer plus Ultrafast, a speed tier that runs up to 300 tokens per second in Codex, which OpenAI puts at up to 8x faster than standard. And Pro $200 is open to new subscribers again, with the lower allowance.

If you only read one line: the $100 and $200 price tags stayed where they were, but $200 buys less than it did before, and the new $500 tier sits above both for people who need more.

ChatGPT Pro after DevDay, by the numbers

How do ChatGPT Pro $100, $200 and $500 compare?

All three Pro tiers include one dot and ChatGPT Space. What changes as you pay more is how much heavy work you can run and how fast it runs.

Pro $100 (Pro Standard) is the entry point, and the cheapest way for one person to get a dot and Space. We couldn't verify OpenAI's usage multiple for Pro $100, so we won't guess. If you plan to lean on Codex or ChatGPT Work, check OpenAI's pricing page for the current number before you pick it.

Pro $200 (Pro More) is the plan most heavy users already know, now trimmed: from October 30 it gets 10x the Plus allowance in ChatGPT Work and Codex and 100 GPT-6 Pro messages a week. It's open to new subscribers again.

Pro 500 ($500 a month) is the new ceiling: the highest usage of any Pro tier plus Ultrafast speed. We couldn't verify its exact caps, so treat "highest" as the promise, not a number.

The dot is identical on every tier: one dot, included at no extra charge. Chatting with your dot doesn't count toward your usage limits, but tasks it runs in Codex or ChatGPT Work do. For the first month, dot usage doesn't count toward eligible plan allowances. If the dot is the main reason you're shopping, our breakdown of how much OpenAI dots cost covers the dot-specific fine print.

ChatGPT Pro tiers compared (from Oct 30, 2026)

What exactly changes on ChatGPT Pro $200 on October 30?

Two limits get cut in half. ChatGPT Work and Codex usage drops from 20x to 10x the Plus allowance, and GPT-6 Pro chat messages drop from 200 to 100 a week. The price stays at $200.

Who feels it: people who run long Codex sessions, lean on ChatGPT Work for multi-step jobs across apps and files, or use GPT-6 Pro as their everyday model. If most of your use is ordinary chat, questions and drafting, you may barely notice.

Some good news came with the bad. OpenAI says it won't reintroduce Pro $200's five-hour limit, so this is a cut to the total allowance, not the return of that limit. And Pro $200 is open to new subscribers again, just at the new, lower numbers.

Don't forget your dot draws from the same pool. Tasks your dot runs in Codex or Work count toward your allowance. Once the first month's free pass on dot usage ends, a busy dot on Pro $200 will be eating into 10x Plus, not 20x.

ChatGPT Pro $200 (Pro More): before and after October 30, 2026

What happens to existing Pro $200 subscribers, and how does the $2,500 credit work?

If you already pay for Pro $200, nothing changes until October 29, 2026. After that you move to the new limits and get a one-time usage-credit grant worth $2,500 that expires at the end of the year.

The number is eye-catching: $2,500 is more than a full year of Pro $200 at list price ($2,400). But it's a usage credit, not money back, and it has a short fuse. October 30 to December 31 is about nine weeks. If you won't run enough heavy Codex or Work jobs in that window, a good part of it will simply expire.

Check the details in your own account: exactly what the credit can be spent on and how it's drawn down. We'd rather you look than trust a guess.

How to play it: if you're a heavy user, schedule your big jobs (the codebase migration, the long research project) for November and December and let the credit absorb the extra usage. Then decide in late December whether 10x Plus is enough for next year or whether you need Pro 500. If you're a light user, the cut probably doesn't touch you and neither does the credit, so the real question is whether you need $200 at all.

If you decide to leave Pro, you cancel from ChatGPT's web settings (look for Settings, then Account, then manage subscription), or through the Apple or Google store if that's where you subscribed. Our guide on how to cancel OpenAI dots walks through the steps.

What is ChatGPT Pro 500, and what does Ultrafast actually do?

Pro 500 is the new $500-a-month top tier: the highest usage OpenAI offers on Pro plus Ultrafast, which runs up to 300 tokens per second in Codex, up to 8x faster than standard.

Tokens per second is how fast the model writes its output. For a chat answer, fast versus very fast barely matters. For a coding agent writing and rewriting thousands of lines, or a Work task grinding through a long set of files, it's the difference between you waiting on the machine and the machine waiting on you.

Who it's for: developers and technical founders who live in Codex all day, and people who push ChatGPT Work hard enough to hit Pro $200's new ceiling every week. At $6,000 a year, it makes sense when the time saved is billable or the work genuinely stalls without it.

Who it's not for: almost everyone else. Pro 500 still includes just one dot, the same as Pro $100. OpenAI has said more dots, extra speed and more workload for dots will cost extra later, at prices it hasn't disclosed. So $500 a month doesn't buy you a team of dots, at least not at launch.

Which ChatGPT Pro plan should you pick, or should you drop to a cheaper one?

Pick the cheapest plan that covers your heaviest normal week, not your best week. For most individuals, that's Pro $100 or a plan below Pro altogether.

Pro $100 fits if you want a dot and Space and your Codex or Work use is occasional. Pro $200 fits if you code or run Work jobs most days and 100 GPT-6 Pro messages a week covers you. Pro 500 fits only if you already hit Pro $200's limits and speed saves you real money.

Location matters for dots. Pro dots aren't available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the UK at launch, and OpenAI hasn't given a timeline. If a dot is why you're considering Pro and you're there, Business Premium ($100 per seat per month billed annually, or $125 monthly) gets dots in all supported ChatGPT regions. Dots also require you to be 18 or older.

Who should drop to a cheaper plan: if you don't use Codex, rarely touch ChatGPT Work, don't need GPT-6 Pro every week and won't set up a dot, Pro is probably overkill. Plus and Go cost much less (check OpenAI's pricing page for current prices), though neither includes dots or Space.

Is ChatGPT Pro worth it if you mostly want help with everyday admin?

Probably not. Pro is built for heavy knowledge work: coding in Codex, long multi-step jobs in ChatGPT Work, deep research, GPT-6 Pro and a dot with its own cloud computer. If what you actually wanted was something that remembers things, chases people and reads the odd contract, $1,200 to $6,000 a year is a lot of machine for that job.

There's also the question of where. You reach a dot in ChatGPT, Slack, Microsoft Teams and a limited US-only SMS beta. WhatsApp isn't a launch channel. If your clients, suppliers, staff and family are all in WhatsApp, your assistant should be there too.

Agent Sonic is a personal AI assistant that lives entirely inside WhatsApp. No app to install, no desktop setup, no plan tiers to decode: you just message it. Here's the kind of thing people send it:

Reminders: "Remind me to call the accountant every Monday at 9." Follow-ups: "Message Daniel, ask if the quote is final, and tell me what he says." Sonic messages him and reports his answer back. Documents: forward a lease or an invoice PDF and ask, "Anything unusual in the termination clause?" Calendar: "What's on my calendar Thursday?" through Google Calendar. Group reminders: "Every Friday at 2pm remind the team group to send timesheets." Voice notes: talk instead of typing, and get a voice reply back if you want one.

It also keeps your to-dos and notes, remembers what you've told it, searches the web, creates and edits images, and works with Google Sheets and Docs, in English, Hebrew, Arabic and more.

Now the honest part. Sonic doesn't write code, doesn't run hours of autonomous research on a cloud computer, doesn't have 4,000 integrations, doesn't make purchases, isn't in Slack or Teams, and isn't a dot. If you're a developer or your job is research-heavy, Pro earns its price. If you just want your admin handled where you already talk, Sonic is the lighter option, and plenty of people will use both.

Agent Sonic is in early access. Request early access at tryagentsonic.com and hand it the reminders, follow-ups and paperwork that don't need a $500-a-month cloud computer.

Frequently asked questions

What is ChatGPT Pro 500?

ChatGPT Pro 500 is a new $500-a-month plan OpenAI announced at DevDay on September 29, 2026. It has the highest usage of any Pro tier plus Ultrafast speed, up to 300 tokens per second in Codex, and like every Pro tier it includes one dot and ChatGPT Space.

What's the difference between ChatGPT Pro $100 and $200?

Both include one dot and ChatGPT Space. Pro $200 (Pro More) gives more heavy-usage room: from October 30, 2026, 10x the Plus allowance in ChatGPT Work and Codex and 100 GPT-6 Pro messages a week. We couldn't verify Pro $100's exact multiple, so check OpenAI's pricing page if you plan heavy Codex or Work use.

Is ChatGPT Pro $200 getting a usage cut?

Yes. From October 30, 2026, Pro $200's ChatGPT Work and Codex usage drops from 20x to 10x the Plus allowance, and GPT-6 Pro messages drop from 200 to 100 per week. The price stays $200 a month, and OpenAI says it won't reintroduce the five-hour limit.

What is the $2,500 ChatGPT Pro credit?

It's a one-time usage-credit grant worth $2,500 for existing Pro $200 subscribers. They keep their current limits through October 29, 2026, then move to the new limits and receive the credit, which expires at the end of the year. Check your account for exactly how it's applied.

Do all ChatGPT Pro plans include OpenAI dots?

Yes. Pro $100, Pro $200 and Pro 500 each include one dot at no extra charge, for users 18 and older in eligible markets. Pro dots aren't available in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK at launch; Business Premium gets dots in all supported regions.

Is ChatGPT Pro worth it in 2026?

It's worth it if you code in Codex, run heavy ChatGPT Work jobs, rely on GPT-6 Pro or want a dot. If you mostly chat, write and ask questions, a cheaper plan like Plus or Go will likely cover you, and if you mainly want everyday admin handled in WhatsApp, a lighter assistant such as Agent Sonic fits better.

Can I still sign up for ChatGPT Pro $200?

Yes. OpenAI reopened Pro $200 to new subscribers after DevDay. New subscribers get the new allowance: 10x the Plus allowance in ChatGPT Work and Codex and 100 GPT-6 Pro messages a week.

Is there a cheaper alternative to ChatGPT Pro for everyday admin in WhatsApp?

Yes. Agent Sonic is a personal AI assistant that lives inside WhatsApp and handles reminders, follow-ups with other people, group reminders, documents, voice notes and Google Calendar, Sheets and Docs. It doesn't code or run a cloud computer like Pro does. It's in early access at tryagentsonic.com.
