Plan: Free trial, Basic & Pro · Setup time: 1 minute
Step by step
- Connect your mailbox first: Gmail takes about 3 minutes with a Google app password (see “Connect Gmail to WhatsApp”), Outlook about a minute with
/mail connect outlookand a Microsoft sign-in (see “Connect Outlook or Hotmail to WhatsApp”). Already connected? Send/mailto check. - In your private chat with Sonic, say what you're waiting for: “Tell me when Oren replies” or “Let me know if the bank emails me about the loan.”
- To hear about every new email, not just one sender: “Check every 5 minutes for new mail and summarize it.”
- Sonic confirms in one line how often it checks. If the email you're waiting for is already in your inbox, it tells you right away.
- When matching mail arrives, you get a 📬 chat message: who wrote, what they want, and what you need to do.
- Answer in the same chat, for example “reply that Thursday works”. Sonic shows you the draft and sends it only after you confirm.
- To see or stop your watches, ask: “What are you watching for me?” or “Stop watching Oren.”
What Sonic can do
- Watch for a person, a company or a subject, like “mail from Dana about the lease”, using your mailbox's own search (Gmail's or Outlook's).
- Watch for any new mail in your inbox and summarize each batch as it arrives.
- Check every 15 minutes by default, as often as every 5 minutes, or less often if you prefer (“once an hour is enough”).
- Summarize up to 5 new emails in one chat message, in your language, and count the rest.
- Report the way you asked: “just tell me the subject” or “summarize what he wrote”.
- Keep up to 5 watches at once, each until you stop it or for a set time (“for the next two weeks”, up to 90 days).
- Hold a notification if WhatsApp is briefly down and send it once it's back, so no email is skipped.
What it can't do (yet)
- Send email on its own. A watch only reads your mail; a reply is always shown to you first and sent only after you confirm.
- Alert you the very second an email lands. It checks on a schedule, every 5 minutes at the fastest.
- Run in WhatsApp groups. Watches live in your private chat.
- Open attachments in a notification. Ask for them and Sonic sends you the files in the chat.
- Watch Yahoo, iCloud or other providers. It's Gmail and Outlook for now.
- Keep watching after you disconnect:
/mail disconnectremoves your watches too. After a free trial ends, watches pause until you subscribe.
Try asking
- “Tell me when Oren replies.”
- “Let me know if I get anything from the tax office.”
- “Tell me when the contract from Acme arrives, and what they wrote.”
- “Check every 5 minutes for new mail and summarize it.”
- “Watch for mail from my landlord for the next two weeks.”
- “What are you watching for me?”
- “Stop watching Oren.”
Commands
/mail— connection status and setup steps/mail disconnect— remove the mailbox connection and all your watches
Questions
Can WhatsApp notify me when I get a new email?
Not on its own: WhatsApp doesn't connect to your inbox. With Agent Sonic you connect Gmail or Outlook once and say what to watch for. Sonic checks every few minutes and sends you a chat message on WhatsApp with a short summary as soon as matching mail arrives.
How quickly will I hear about a new email?
Within about 15 minutes by default. Ask for faster and Sonic checks every 5 minutes, the fastest it goes. You can also ask for less often, up to once a day.
Does Sonic read all of my email to do this?
No. Each check searches only for what you asked about, and Sonic reads a message only when a new one matches. It doesn't keep copies of your email; the summary it sends stays in your chat like any message.
What's the difference between a mail watch and a scheduled update?
A watch waits for new mail and messages you when it arrives. A scheduled update runs at set times, like “every evening at 8, tell me if Dana emailed today”, and suits a daily digest. For anything that needs to reach you within minutes, use a watch.
How do I stop a watch?
Say “stop watching Oren”, or ask “what are you watching?” and pick the one to stop. A watch with an end date stops by itself, and /mail disconnect removes all of them.
